This 44-week (minimum), Department of Home Affairs approved program will enable you to achieve your career goals and overcome obstacles to employment. The Navitas Professional Year Program is a professional development program combining formal learning and an Australian internship placement.
Navitas Professional is the only provider able to offer the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Professional Year Program, Engineers Australia’s Professional Year in Engineering and Skilled Migration Internship Program – Accounting (SMIPA) nationwide.
The program gives international graduates the skills to gain employment and excel in their chosen field. Successful completion provides eligibility for migration points towards permanent residency.

*Professions nominated by Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). The Professional Year Program is approved by the DIBP, which means on successful completion you may be eligible for migration points towards permanent residence in Australia.

The ACS Professional Year Program in ICT/Computing (PYear) is a job-readiness program which bridges the gap between full-time study and professional employment. The PYear is designed to equip graduates with the professional skills needed for a successful career in the Australian workforce.
PROFESSIONAL YEAR PROGRAM
ACS’ PYear Program gives international ICT/Computing graduates from Australian universities the practical skills and training needed to enhance their career prospects. An additional pathway from university to employment, this program ensures that graduates are job-ready.
GRADUATES MAY CLAIM FIVE (5) POINTS UNDER AN ELIGIBLE SKILLED OCCUPATION
Completion of this program may provide the PYear graduate with five (5) points under an eligible skilled occupation, as specified by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

ATMC offers Professional Year programs through the Australian Computer Society (ACS) for information technology graduates and accounting programs through the Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA).
The Professional Year (PY) Program is specifically designed for international students who have graduated from an Australian university and are looking for a successful pathway from university to employment and residency in Australia. Professional Year is a job preparation program that will equip you with the professional skills necessary for a successful career in the Australian workforce.
The program is run by our highly experienced trainers, who take a keen interest in each participant’s educational journey. Trainers help participants with course content whilst also giving them the opportunity to express their opinions, so participants graduate with the academic knowledge and confidence needed to excel in their fields.
The PY program consists of the following components:

» Entry and Advancement in the Australian Workplace
CLASSROOM BASED TRAINING AND WORKSHOP
There are two units delivered over 250 contact hours by ATMC. Participants are expected to attend classes of between 8 to 9 hours per week.
a. Communications and Performance in the Australian Workplace
Participants will be expected to attend work meetings during internships and in professional positions. The purpose of this unit is to ensure participants feel comfortable joining and interacting in meetings. The unit covers many aspects of meetings including: organising meetings, expectations of meetings in Australia, roles in meetings, and appropriate behaviour, communication and language.
b. Entry and Advancement in the Australian Workplace
The job descriptions of most PY graduates will include communicating with customers. A cultural sensitivity is essential to be able to build rapport and ensure there is no miscommunication with clients. This unit requires participants to communicate with internal and external customers, and team members. The purpose is to ensure that graduates can communicate effectively in customer facing roles as well as with colleagues.
All ATMC academic staff are highly trained and qualified, particularly in the technology and/or business fields. The PY lecturers are proficient in industry employment and have a strong personal understanding of the Australian workplace environment.
The ATMC PY internship component offers the students to develop, enhance and tailor their CV’s for entry into the Australian workplace.
The internship itself provides practical work experience for participants to develop professional skills, which will enable them to operate effectively across Australian industries and business environments.
During the internship, participants are able to utilise first-hand the skills and knowledge learned during the two classroom based training and workshop units. Participants must complete the internship in 240 hours over a period of 12 weeks.
Each internship has been specifically designed to complement the participant’s studies and prepare them for a career in their chosen field. Participants will be introduced to both the technical and commercial aspects of a business through observation and supervised practice.
Participants completing internships at employer companies are given the opportunity to work on existing projects and directly assist and/or observe project managers.

SMIPA PY – $7,200.
ACS Professional Year program
ACS PY – $12,600.
Once participants have been accepted to enrol in the program, they can either nominate to pay the fee in full commencing from the first day of the program or by direct bank debit.
ATMC WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING
At ATMC we ensure participants graduate work-ready by creating an environment where they can develop and apply their skills and knowledge in the workforce.
ATMC’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) division exists to provide participants with ‘Good WIL’ services. PY participants are encouraged to attend WIL workshops, which assist with identifying career opportunities, resume development and preparing for interviews. Sessions are scheduled regularly throughout the year.
ATMC teaching and administrative staff are also available to provide general advice and assistance with matters such as studying and student administration. We pride ourselves on providing participants with the highest level of support possible, so please don’t be afraid to ask our friendly staff for help.
- Your Professional Year must have been:
- completed in Australia in the four years before you are invited to apply for a visa.
- in your nominated occupation or a closely related occupation
- completed over a period of at least 12 months
- provided by one of these organisations:
- the Australian Computer Society
- CPA Australia
- Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand
- the Institute of Public Accountants (formerly the National Institute of Accountants)
- Engineers Australia.
The Professional Year in Engineering Program helps engineering graduates develop and enhance their employability skills, which employers demand. Gain insight into the Australian workplace and employment market in this unique 44-week work-readiness program.
- Practical training (32 weeks): Learn effective resume writing and interview techniques; Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental (OHS&E) processes, and legislative requirements for working in Australia via our face-to-face workshops and online resources. Choose from flexible study options including one full day or two nights (half day) per week.
- Internship placement (12 weeks full time): Build a network of peers and professionals and apply your practical training in the workplace. Throughout your placement you’ll be assigned a mentor to support you along the way.
Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for 5 migration points that can be used for all points test visas. You’ll also gain an understanding of the Australian Occupational Health and Safety requirements and become a professional member of Engineers Australia.

This program is full fee-paying. CRICOS, HECS and fee-help is not eligible for the program.
The Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA) is a professional year program approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) (formerly known as the Department of Immigration and Citizenship), available to overseas students who have an Australian accounting degree qualification as a result of at least two years’ study in Australia.
- a minimum of 44 weeks’ training, including a 12-week internship placement with a relevant host company
- professional development and practical hands-on learning, with an emphasis on workplace preparation: Culture, ethics and expectations
- recognition as a pathway for 485 visa holders seeking permanent residency under general skilled migration (GSM)
Successful completion of SMIPA may attract additional points under the GSM points test.
SMIPA was developed by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Institute of Public Accountants. It is delivered by registered providers who have been approved by all three professional accounting bodies.
Enrolment in any of the accounting bodies’ professional programs is independent of an individual’s participation in SMIPA or any other DIBP-approved pathways to permanent residency.
Does CPA Australia provide the SMIPA?
No. The SMIPA is overseen by the three professional accounting bodies. The program is delivered by registered providers who have been jointly approved by the three bodies.
Applications to deliver the SMIPA Program will be open in the latter half of 2018. All applicants must be either a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or a Higher Education Provider (HEP) and have been registered for at least three years.

Engineering experience and networks
The Professional Year in Engineering course is a comprehensive program that will prepare you to work as an engineer in Australia. It lasts for 44 weeks, giving you time to learn about the expectations of employers, begin building your network, and create a plan for career success.
The first 32 weeks consist of online study and classroom workshops, followed by 12 weeks of work placement at a professional organisation. During this time you will develop a thorough understanding of our work conditions, health and safety requirements, and other important aspects of working as an engineer in Australia.
Qualifying engineers and visa types
If you have graduated from an accredited course in Australia or at an officially recognised overseas institution, you could qualify for the Professional Year in Engineering course. This course is open to holders of various visa types. Before applying, we recommend you contact a migration agent or visit the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.
Applicants must have completed a successful Migration Skills Assessment with Engineers Australia to be eligible for entry into the program.

The program has been specified by the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection for the General Skills Migration points test for all eligible holders of the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa (Graduate Work stream) – (subclass 485) or Bridging Visa.
The PYP delivers:
- Minimum 44 weeks training, for international IT graduates in job-readiness including 12 weeks of internship with a relevant host company. On successful completion participants may be awarded 5 points under the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
- Bachelors or Masters qualification in Computing/ICT from an Australian institution
- At least 2 years study completed in Australia
- IELTS minimum 6.0 (Academic or General) no band below 5.0
- A skilled graduate temporary visa (subclass 485) or Bridging Visa A
